by admin on Dec 18, 2021

Riding an off-road electric scooter can be super fun, but there might be some minor problems from time to time. Many riders have no idea about electric scooter repair. If you find that your electric scooter is not working or acting strange, what will you do?

If you have no idea, contacting the dealer or company you bought the scooter will be the best way. Are there any other solutions?

The direct answer is yes, and there are plenty of ways to repair your scooter.

Before we share with you numerous ways to repair an electric scooter, take a look at the most common issues. After troubleshooting, you will quickly identify the problem and choose the most appropriate repair option.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON ISSUES WITH ELECTRIC SCOOTER?

Scooter Not Charging

Electric scooter battery charging issues are common. The battery provides the power for the scooter. Generally, a lithium battery's lifespan is 2-3 years, and there are 300-500 charging cycles. Due to the products will have quality inspections before they're shipped, new scooters rarely have battery problems.

A malfunctioning charger causes most problems that cannot be charged. When you are unsure whether it is the charger or battery problem, try to troubleshoot it on other same model electric scooters. If the charger performs well on the new scooter, which indicates a problem with the charging port. Then perform a further check to see if it is a problem with the charger port.

Please check the cable and connector of the charger port with a voltmeter.

Scooter Running Slowly

The top speed can reach 40 mph, why can my scooter only reach 15 mph?

Many people have such questions. Four main reasons affect speed: battery power, speed mode, payload capacity, and pneumatic tire air pressure.

  • Battery power

If you find that you cannot reach the top speed or lower than usual, the most likely reason is that the battery is insufficient and cannot provide enough energy. If you want to hit the top speed, please make sure that the battery is fully charged.

  • Speed mode

For Varla Eagle One, if the rider has been in Eco mode or Gear 1, the maximum speed can be reached at 20 kph. Turn to Turbo mode and adjust to gear 3, making the riding speed faster, to 40 mph.

  • Payload capacity

The weight of the scooter also affects the speed. The manufacturer usually measures the top speed in an ideal environment; the model's weight is generally about 160 lbs. If the rider's weight exceeds the recommended max value, the scooter will travel slower than the standard parameter.

  • Tire pressure

Ensure that the tire pressure is within the proper range (45-50psi) . If the tire pressure is too low, the contact area between the tire and the ground will increase, and the driving resistance will also increase. Thus, the speed of the scooter will also slow down.

If you have checked all of the above, it may be a battery problem. The capacity of lithium batteries will gradually decrease in time. When it has more than three years of service life, it is time to replace it with a new battery.

Abnormal Brake Sound

It mostly occurs on disc brakes. When the distance between the brake rotor and the brake pads is not equal due to the bumps during riding, leading to the brake pad on one side being rubbed against the brake rotor, an abnormal sound occurs.

At this time, please adjust these two screws patiently to keep the distance between the two sides evenly. When the tire is rotated without a rubbing sound, it means that the adjustment is complete.

If you can't adjust it well, please seek professional help.

WHERE TO REPAIR THE ELECTRIC SCOOTER?

Return to Distributor

Check the warranty of the electric scooter first.

Most scooters have different warranty periods based on different parts, such as the battery, motors, and frame. Varla provides a 2-year warranty service, which is very helpful. If your scooter encounters any manufacturing defects during the warranty period, we will help you solve this problem.

Find Skilled Mechanics Online

Are you worried that electric scooters are not common enough to be repaired? No worries! You can easily find a mechanic online to solve the problem. The best sources to find are yellow pages and online business listings.

The advantage is that you won't have to spend time and resources to repair it. You just need to move your fingers to check the mechanics near your online and make an appointment for maintenance.

Go to PEV/Moped Repair Shops

There are PEV repair shops in most urban areas. If there is an electric scooter repair shop near your home, then it is recommended that you take the scooter and let them check and repair it for you. These repair stores usually have professional mechanics, who are likely to solve any malfunctions related to the electric scooter and let you ride it as soon as possible.

If you are not sure whether there is such a repair shop near your home, Google search will tell you the answer.

Go to Bike Repair Shops

If the situation gets worse and you cannot find a mechanic or electric scooter repair shop near you, you can try to go to a bike repair shop to see if they can provide scooter repairs. Although they may not fully understand the scooter, they can at least perform simple repairs, such as changing tires, adjusting the brakes, tightening loose screws, or solving some steering and braking problems.

If there is no other repair shop and you really have no idea, it's good to find a bike repair shop to do it.

Do It Yourself

Nowadays, you can easily find videos on the Internet and other tutorials that you can perform yourself. For example, the Varla Scooter provides many tech tips videos to help customers repair it themselves. According to the video instruction, you can replace the inner tube or tire, adjust the brake, etc. This will not only save you a lot of maintenance costs but also help you better understand your scooter.

*If you are not confident about repairing an electric scooter, please do not act rashly!

CONCLUSION

Although electric scooters do not require much maintenance, you can always avoid repairs if you can maintain your scooter regularly. Ensure that the electric scooter is always kept clean, and learn how to ride the electric scooter in the recommended way. Finally, if you think there is a problem, please check it immediately to avoid any other scooter problems.
